The Middle East fresh produce market has witnessed a remarkable growth in 2013 and is continuing for 2014 with higher expectations and higher figures. Fresh produce exporters and worldwide growers are heavily considering Middle East and GCC in particular as an important alternative with many promising business opportunities within the fresh industry. The World of Produce (WOP) Dubai Food Show was held from November 9th-11th and this year reached record attendance while having over 150 exhibitors from 25 different countries. Eric Borton, our VP of International Sales & Marketing, and Denny Annen, our President of Sales & Marketing, made the trip for Borton representation.
Eric and Denny were able to tour the Dubai Market, getting a chance to have firsthand insight into the Dubai produce market and better understand the Middle East region as it pertains to produce as a whole. A large percentage of all products imported into Dubai are re-exported to other markets/countries within the Middle East region. “We were able to visit the Al Aweer Fruit & Vegetable wholesale market located in Dubai. This is Dubai’s main wholesale produce market and is an integral part of supplying a good share of the Middle East region with fresh produce. Visiting the wholesale market allowed us to understand how the wholesale segment of the Dubai Market operated, helping us to continue evolving our programs to meet the needs of our customers,” stated Eric Borton. “We also had the opportunity to visit several retail formats throughout the city. It is important to understand both the retail and wholesale aspect of a market to be able to fully capitalize on the opportunities each export market presents. Every export market around the world is unique. Understanding how to best work into each market is very important to the success of our export program,” Eric went onto say.
“Overall the trip was extremely productive. The City of Dubai is unlike any other city in the world. As the center of business and trade in the region, it was a great experience to see such an amazing city and at the same time continue to build our export program and the Borton Worldwide Brand.” stated Eric.
