Happy Birthday to Cesar Lopez, our Featured Employee This Month!

Yakima, WA – Borton & Sons, Inc. would like to feature a very special employee this month that wears many hats within our company, Cesar Lopez. Cesar started working here in 2008, marking 9 years this year with Borton fruit.  Today, January, 27th is also Cesar’s birthday so we’d like to send a Happy Birthday shout-out to Cesar!

Cesar was born in Jalisco, Mexico. At the age of 11, he was brought to join his family in the United States who already resided in the Yakima valley.  Cesar had some schooling in Mexico and moved right into middle school upon his arrival.  After completing middle school, he went on to attend Davis High School.  His senior year, he worked at a bakery making cakes, and then decided to move into the agriculture industry by installing irrigation in the fields for J&S Orchards.  After about a year, they ran out of work for him in the fields and he was onto his next adventure which brought him to us.

Cesar applied at Borton Fruit in November of 2008 for a night crew position in the warehouse. “After about a week of being persistent in checking back, they hired me as a packer on our night primary line” Cesar said.  After showing he was a hard worker on the line for about a year, Cesar was put in charge of our bagging area.  During this time, he was also trained in the shipping department to fill in during cherry season when some of our other guys go out to the cherry shed for the duration of the couple months we run each summer.  Cesar continued to show he could handle any task handed his way and ever since has been a part of many faucets in our operation processes.  “Today I work in many different areas and enjoy being challenged and learning new things as often as I can” said Cesar.  “I start each crop year off in the receiving department, overseeing all fruit bins coming in as they are picked in the orchards and keeping track of counts, making sure everything is accurate.  After harvest, I help in multiple areas assisting Managers and Supervisors with many different tasks.  Once Cherry harvest starts, I go out to our Zillah plant and keep track of pack-outs, etc.,” he went onto say.  Cesar seems to always know who to go to in getting the correct answers and knows our operation process from start to finish.  The sales team here at Borton usually calls Cesar first when trying to look into multiple situations, especially during cherries.  “I’m very thankful to the Borton family for giving me the opportunity to grow within the company, and am looking forward to being a part of this company for many more years” said Cesar.

In his spare time, Cesar enjoys spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoys the spring and summer months where he likes to go fishing, recreational shooting, hiking, and partaking in water sports.

Cesar, we are very thankful for all you do, you keep the process flowing without missing a beat and never tell anybody you are too busy to figure something out. Your attention to detail and determination are admirable and we are grateful you are a part of our team here.
