Yakima, WA – Borton Fruit would like to feature Allen VanVleck this month as one of our key employees. Allen’s history with the Borton’s roots back to his childhood as he was raised right here on Borton Road near the Borton families. This year marks 10 years with our company and we are thankful for all Allen does.
Allen was born in Seattle, WA. His family moved over to Yakima before he started school and lived right here in West Valley on Borton Road. Allen stated, “It is an interesting feeling looking out of my office window to see the house I grew up in just across the street. Back then, though, that was all orchard and now it is part of our main packing plant.”
Allen graduated from West Valley High School and attended college for communications, but opted to work in the Ag business. “Over the years I’ve had experience in almost every aspect of the apple industry from harvesting to packing as well as administration” Allen said. “I’ve been with Borton Fruit for ten years, but had actually worked for them in my teens. My first job in my youth was sorting apples and then working on the line segregating boxes and assisting the packers. I did this during the summer to earn money for a computer I wanted. When I came back later, as an adult, my tasks were related to maintaining the information accuracy of our fruit from harvest, through sales” he went on to say. Allen is now our lead role in Grower Accounting, currently overseeing the accounts for all fruit handled at Borton & Sons, Inc. “In the past 10 years, I have seen the volume of fruit we handle more than double” Allen said. Some responsibilities that tie in with Allen’s role include industry reports, projections, estimates and generation of final analysis for our own fruit and growers, overseeing data integrity for coding and process for packouts; analyzing costs associated with packing and handling of fruit, as well as advising growers on their accounts and fruit. “It is exciting to be a part of an ever changing industry and to work for a company that is a leader in many areas” he said.
Allen is married to a wonderful woman named Denise VanVleck and has one beautiful daughter. Outside of the office, Allen enjoys acting for a few different local theater companies. “My wife and I lead an International Thespian Society troupe at one of the local high schools and are involved in a few booster clubs. We also enjoy sampling the local wineries, breweries and distilleries in our agriculturally rich area” said Allen.
Borton Fruit is very thankful to have you as a part of our team here Allen. Your attention to detail, work ethic and ambition is admirable. We appreciate all you do and look forward to your being a part of our team here at Borton Fruit for many years to come.
