Borton Fruit attends #PMAFRESHSUMMIT2016

Yakima, WA – A number of Borton Fruit employees just returned from a very successful show in Orlando, FL. PMA’s 2016 Fresh Summit Food Show set a new East coast attendance record, despite the scare one week prior with Hurricane Matthew.  The show was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL October 14th – 16th and included more than 1,200 exhibitors and 20,889 attendees from 65 countries.

A core emphasis of what we showcase at PMA is really focusing on telling the unique story of Borton Fruit. A 100 year old, fully integrated family farming, packing & marketing operation. “We pride ourselves on our dedication to growing the best piece of fruit possible, implementing innovative growing practices and the use of state of the art packing technology. We are able to provide value through customers’ ability to work directly with the farmer” said Eric Borton, VP of International Sales & Marketing.

One of the highlights from this year’s PMA show was the tremendous feedback we received on our two new proprietary Apple varieties, the Rockit™ and the KORU®. Borton Fruit is Growing and marketing both of these varieties. We have made a tremendous investment in terms of new planting in order to generate scalable volumes to promote each variety. Both the KORU® and Rockit™ are unique and exciting in their own right.

“We had freshly harvested Washington State grown Rockit™ apples on display for sampling, which was a huge hit. Visitors at our booth were pleasantly surprised by the incredible flavor from such a small apple” stated Eric. The Rockit™ apple, which naturally grows very small, packs a big flavor punch. It has an eating experience that out performs small size fruit of any other apple variety. This combined with unique tube packaging for on-the-go convenience, really distinguishes the Rockit™ apple from other varieties. It generated a lot of excitement and inquires throughout the 2 days of the show.

The KORU® apple variety also gained a lot of attention at our booth. We had a very successful import program from New Zealand grown KORU® this summer season in which we received outstanding consumer feedback. We showcased several packaging and display options, including KORU® branded stand up pouch bags.

Overall the show was fantastic. Traffic was consistent and Borton Fruit had the best booth location at a PMA show yet.  We look forward to exhibiting next year in New Orleans!
