Borton Holds Annual Apple Cook-off!

Yakima, WA – Borton & Sons, Inc. held their Annual Office Apple Cook-off today at Noon.  This is such an enjoyable way to explore new recipes and get the office together for some tasty fun!  This year’s contestants were so creative, making it extremely hard to pick the winners.

This year we had 9 entries:

  1. Dehydrated ROCKIT® Apples by Sky Johnson, Sales & Marketing (ROCKIT® Apples)
  2. Double Apple Coffee Cake by Melinda Mendoza, Accounting Manager (Golden Delicious Apples)
  3. Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars with Streusel Topping by Josie Garza, Payroll Clerk (Granny Smith Apples)
  4. Caramelized Apple, Sharp Cheddar & Soft Pretzel with Caramel Apple Sauce by Kimberly Johns, Accounts Payable (Gala Apples)
  5. Caramel Apple Cupcakes by Amber Arreguin, Accounts Payable Assistant (Granny Smith Apples)
  6. Apple Salad by Diana Zapien, Payroll Assistant (Fuji Apples)
  7. Apple Ratatouille served on a Garlic Crostini by Colleen Malmassari, HR Director (Fuji Apples)
  8. Apple Betty by Malcolm (Diane) Hanks, Engineer (Honeycrisp Apples)
  9. Sweet & Spicy Apple Chile by Jeremy Leavitt, Food Safety & Compliance Manager (Fuji Apples, Golden Delicious Apples for Garnish)

The 4th Generation family Members Byron Borton, Eric Borton and Katie Birley voted on their top 2 favorites while the rest of our office picked their favorite number for a total of three winners.  Congratulations to Josie Garza for taking first place with her Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars with Streusel Topping, Coleen Malmassari for taking second place with her Fuji Apple Ratatouille served on a garlic crostini, and Jeremy Leavitt for winning the office vote on his Sweet & Spicy Apple Chile.  All entries were incredible and it was really hard to choose a favorite.

We appreciate everybody who participated, and can’t wait until the next one!
