Yakima, WA – Borton Fruit’s excited to celebrate National Fresh Fruit & Veggie Day, today June 12th! This has evolved over the years to be a national month long celebration. Although research doesn’t seem to provide the creator or origin of this day, research shows this has been celebrated for years.
So why do days/months like this excite us? We grow, pack and sell Fresh Apples and Pears virtually year round as well as seasonal northwest cherries. We know how healthy our products are but it’s nice to be able to educate the public on the nutritional values of eating more Apples, Pears and Cherries during dedicated months where these topics are on people’s radar. Please see our nutrition and recipe’s page to learn more specifically about the nutritional values of Borton Fruit products. http://www.bortonfruit.com/fruit/recipes.html.
There are many reasons to increase your fruit and vegetable intake. The Produce for Better Health Foundation dedicates their time into educating the consumer on why you should do this as well as how to. Please see the following guides posted on their website to help in increasing your fruit and vegetable consumption; http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org/quick-guide-to-getting-more-fruits-and-vegetables. There are guides that help while in the store shopping, adding more fruits and vegetables to your dinner planning, on the go options, children’s lunch options, buying on a budget and recipes for entertaining. You will be surprised how good and easy some of these ideas are.
Multiple surveys conducted over the years have proven people want to eat healthier. One of the main reasons consumers say they don’t buy more fruits and vegetables is because they don’t know how to prepare or store them, making them spoil before they get to eating them. The Pbh has also done a great job making the consumer aware of how to store these items so they are fresh for much longer. Please see link; http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org/fruit-and-vegetable-storage-101.
We hope some of these tips will help you in increasing your fruit and vegetable consumption for overall health. Borton Fruit would like to wish everybody a very happy and healthy National Fruit & Veggie Month!
