Meet Rob Dresker, our featured employee of the month!

Yakima, WA – Borton Fruit would like to recognize Rob Dresker this month as our featured employee of the Month.  Rob has been a prodigious asset to our sales team since 1992, making this his 23rd year with Borton Fruit!

Rob was born in Pittsburg, Kansas.  His family moved to Chicago, IL when he was 5 and then moved to Danville, IL where he lived until his senior year of high school.  During Christmas break that year, his Dad moved the family out to Wenatchee so he could restart the refrigeration program at Wenatchee Valley College.  Rob graduated and then attended Wenatchee Valley College for two years before going to WSU.  In 1981, Rob started with the Washington State Inspection Service and was a State Inspector for 4 years.  He then went and worked for multiple fruit brokerage companies prior to working at CMI for about two years before coming to Borton.

In July of 1992, Borton Fruit put out an ad for a new Export Sales Position that would be the first in house position managing direct export sales.  “This position really interested me and I was extremely happy for the opportunity in accepting this role.  I knew a few of my contacts from previous jobs would be helpful in getting into a few of the intended markets.  We started by researching different avenues, most by phone and fax back then, and made some new direct contact which we are still working with today,” stated Rob.  “We spent a lot of time overseas meeting people and establishing long lasting relationships” he went onto say.

“Years ago, it could take multiple days at a time to connect with our Export Customers in getting orders situated via fax and phone.  With today’s technology; emails, skype, instant message and even just a clear phone call, we can get orders put together in no time” Rob said.  Borton Fruit has multiple relationships to this day that started back 22 years ago when Rob and John got this Export program rolling.  “Our steady long term customers have evolved to friends” Rob stated.  Borton Fruit is very pleased with how far our Export Market has come, as well as continually looking to expand that portion of the business.  John Borton and Rob Dresker handled all export sales for Borton until about 5 years ago when we decided to get some help in the field and hired Dave Carlson and Julie Lee.  John’s son Eric has now come on board as the V.P. of International Sales & Marketing, and we have another in house Export Sales Account manager Bob Schefter who was hired within the last year.

Rob has been married to his beautiful wife Carolyn for 31 plus years.  He has three children who are all large parts of his life; his oldest son Robert, daughter Michelle and youngest son Jason.  Rob enjoys golfing, fishing, camping and watching sports.  He even enjoys flying remote control planes and helicopters!  “My absolute favorite is anything that includes getting together with family for different events” said Rob.

Thank You Rob for your dedication and support over the years.  You have helped us build quite the program and Borton will forever value your efforts there.  We appreciate everything you’ve done and continue doing for our company.
